"William Raye Clitheroe DDS, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend passed away surrounded by family on Jun 4, 2014, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer.
"Billy Raye" was born in Beaumont, TX on Aug 16, 1932, to William Ernest Clitheroe and Mittie Raye Currey Clitheroe.
Bill graduated from Pasadena High School in 1950 and attended Southwest Texas State and graduated from the University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston in 1957.
After graduation, he entered the Army as a 1st Lieutenant in the dental corp. Following his service in the army, Dr. Clitheroe returned to Houston in 1959 to begin his private dental practice. He was a beloved family practitioner until his illness. Dr. Clitheroe was a member of the ADA, TDA, Greater Houston Dental Society and the American Association of Dental Insultants. He was a Fellow in both the American and International College of Dentists and held leadership positions at every level of organized dentistry. Dr. Clitheroe organized and chaired the Endowment Fund for the University of Texas Dental Branch and was a mentor to many dental students and dentists over the years. He was also a past president of the alumni associations of SWTSU and UTDB Houston.
He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Epiphany.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in honor of Billy Raye to the UTSD Alumni Foundation or the outreach program at Epiphany, ECHOS or charity of your choice."
The Foundation Board wishes to honor Dr. William "Billy Raye" Clitheroe by naming the donor wall "William R. Clitheroe Legacy Donor Wall." The wall be located on the 4th floor of the UT-School of Dentistry. This would be supported by funds donated in Dr. Clitheroe's memory.

The UTSD Alumni Association has created a Tooth Collection Program to assist UTSD Dental Students in obtaining appropriate teeth to meet their program requirements.
We are asking Alumni to save extracted teeth in jars that the association will provide, free of charge. Dental students need help in collecting teeth for lab practicals, mock boards, Boards, and various other restorative and endodontic activities.
The Alumni Association will also coordinate drop off and pick up of the jar(s) from your office.
Contact Kathy Zwieg at kathy.zwieg@gmail.com for more information. Please help our future alumni with this important requirement!
Dr. Gary Frey and dental students with donations from our tooth collection program. They are happy to put the teeth to good use!
