History of the Foundation

In 1985, 100 dentists committed $5,000 each to establish the UT Dental Branch Alumni Association Fouders' Fund. While the corpus of that $500,000 has grown to more than $1,5 million, it has also provided over $1 million of support for the dental school.

In 2012, The Legacy Fund was established with a goal of 200 members. The purpose of this fund is to value and support students, faculty and staff with a commitment to those opportunities that enhance the quality of education and professional development in a ethical, caring and compassionate environment. To date, 60 members have left a Legacy to the Foundation. So far the fund has provided the following:

• First Floor History Exhibit at the dental school
• David E. Meraz Memorial fund for Veterans Oral Health
• Dan Kamas lecture at the annual Star of the South Meeting
• White Coat Ceremony 
• UTSD Alumni Association Senior Award
• Table Clinic Awards
• In the past, WREB lunches, faculty retreats and new faculty receptions

Your UTSD Alumni Association will continue to fund those worthwhile projects to be influential and supportive in a meaningful way.
