2020 Evening With Friends Gala and Awards
Out of an abundance of caution, the 2020 "Evening With Friends" Gala and Alumnus of the Year Awards has been cancelled. Popular among alumni; known for its Alumnus of the Year recognition, silent auction and wonderful cusine will return in 2021 when conditions are more favorable for this very social event. The UTSD Alumni Board made the difficult decision to cancel this year's gala and postpone the annual Senior Social to hopefully spring, 2021.
Stay tuned for more information and be safe when you are social!
Letter from the President

I feel honored to serve in this present year of 2019 as your President for the UTSD Alumni Association and I thank those who have chosen to serve in leadership positions including the Board and our Executive Director. We accepted these positions as of January 1st, 2019. I wish to especially thank our previous President,    Dr. Greg Oelfke who served two years 2017 and 2018 and those who served in leadership positions for his term.

Our leadership is focused on the mission and vision of our Association:

  • To unite and support alumni and future alumni;
  • To promote pride and esteem within the UTSD community;
  • For graduates of the School of Dentistry to recognize the “value of membership” and the importance of supporting the UTSD Alumni Association.

With these goals and direction, we will be focused on membership growth- reaching out to alumni, thanking them for their membership, renewing membership, asking for members to contribute to our 2019 Annual Sustaining Funds:

  • Millennium Club $1000 or more
  • Scholars Club $500-$999
  • Directors Council $250-499
  • Century Club $125-$249
  • Alumni Foundation-Houston

I wish to invite and encourage you to be a part of the Legacy Fund which was introduced in 2012 and is a part of our Foundation, to encourage 200 dentists to donate $10,000 each to raise $2 million. Its mission is to value and support students, faculty and staff with a commitment to those opportunities that enhance the quality of education and professional development. WE NEED YOU TO JOIN US! As Dean John Valenza states, “This commitment by alumni will be a difference-maker for the future of our school.”

So I ask all alumni and future alumni to:

  • Pay your alumni dues. You can go online to UTSDalumni.com or contact our outstanding executive director, Tricia Fullerton, at 713-822-6741 for any questions or issues;
  • Become active and support (through time and money) any of our many events or functions;
  • Support and donate to the UTSD Alumni Association Foundation at any level. “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”. Winston Churchhill

Finally, I want to wish everyone in the UTSD community a happy, healthy and prosperous 2019.

Thank you for this honor and for your support! God Bless all of you!

Linda Sierra, DDS ‘78

Helping Our Future

The UTSD Alumni Association has created a Tooth Collection Program to assist UTSD Dental Students in obtaining appropriate teeth to meet their program requirements. We are asking Alumni to save extracted teeth in jars the association will provide, free of charge. Dental students need help in collecting teeth for lab practicals, mock boards, Boards, and various other restorative and endodontic activities.

The Alumni Association will also coordinate drop off and pick up of the jar(s) from your office.Contact Kathy Zwieg at [email protected] for more information.Please help our future alumni with this important requirement!
